Self-Care the Sustainable Way
Hey there, Juni Friends! This week we are talking about the importance of self-care. With our normal everyday hustle and bustle, sometimes it’s easy to forget about taking care of ourselves properly. In fact, self-care is more than just your dedicated daily skin-care routine or green smoothies, it’s a decided effort to nurture your mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Developing healthy habits around self-care can lead to an overall improved lifestyle that contributes toward productivity and happiness! Here are some sustainable ways to self-care:
With many of us shifting from office-to-home over the past year, the importance of decluttering has become both relevant and important. Clutter can affect our productivity as well as our mental-health and emotional well-being. Decluttering is a great way to practice self-care because it helps you de-stress and be more organized. From trends like the Marie Kondo tidying method to minimalism, there are many different ways to tidy your space up while also being mindful of the environment. Some of these include donating to local charities, upcycling, or repurposing items you no longer use or need.

Face-masks are a staple item for self-care (and healthy skin!). However, many sheet face-masks are non-recyclable and cost a pretty penny to buy at the store. Instead of buying a new face mask every time, try making one in your kitchen. Below is a recipe for a Matcha Green Tea Mask, which can rejuvenate your skin while reducing your footprint. Check out some other DIY skincare ideas here.
- Matcha Green Tea Mask: Matcha green tea is an ample resource for antioxidants - matcha contains polyphenols, chlorophyll, catechins, and vitamins, all of which work together to delay the appearance of wrinkles and repair sun damage. With known benefits for wrinkles, sun damage, detoxifying the skin, and evening out an uneven complexion, this mask will leave your skin feeling supple and refreshed.
For this mask, you’ll need 1 tablespoon of matcha green tea, 1 teaspoon of honey, and 2 tablespoons of aloe vera gel. Mix all the ingredients together, apply to the face, and leave it on for 10-15 minutes.
Bath bombs have increasingly become a go-to staple in our self-care routine. Although the irresistibly beautiful powdery goodness may seem like the perfect way to unwind for the night, bath bombs often contain a myriad of chemical additives that may offset bacteria infections and hormone imbalances in our bodies. To steer clear of any unwanted health hazards during bath-time, opt for organic bath bombs with certified, non-toxic ingredients.

- Practice Yoga
Living a healthy lifestyle is as physical as it is mental. Physical activity is a great way to practice self-care because it helps benefit more than just the physical state of our bodies. Yoga is a great, low-impact exercise that you can practice in the comfort of your own home with little to no equipment needed except a mat. It’s a mind-body practice that can benefit everyone from athletes, moms-to-be, and senior citizens. Research shows that those who practice yoga regularly have been able to improve their mental health, increase their overall strength and balance, and improve their sleeping habits. New to yoga?
